Sound Clip: Watched by Margaret Noble
In this work, I examine the concept of surveillance as inspired by George Orwell’s novel, 1984. Sounds mixed in this track include text readings from Orwell, samples from a surveillance news report, melody samples from a surveillance gear commercial and field recordings from public surveillance cameras. The work is part of an album dedicated to comparing Orwell’s world of 1984 to our modern day. My goal is to develop this project as a sound art vinyl album and a graphic design book. I will be donating all of the proceeds from this project to Amnesty International.
But, as many of us know, it ain’t easy for us broke sound artists to push forward in developing new projects. As the creator of Sound is Art, I spend much of my time just stalking the web for new artists and interesting recordings. I love doing this work! But, I also have a tremendous passion for this Orwellian sound art album. So, I must plug this project once more before my time runs out.
You see, I am running the project through an artist development site called Kickstarter and this site works on the concept of crowd funding. In order to succeed I must reach 100% of my funding goal by the due date or all pledges are canceled. It is all or nothing and I have only a few days left. No pledge amount is too small for this project and every pledge over $10 receives the full album upon completion.
So, my humble request is that you support this project and forgive this plug (I promise to not make it a habit!) I also promise to continue my commitment to bringing you great new sounds from Sound is Art.

Thanks you! Funding was successful!!!
Very interesting recording. Love the sound effects, repeated vocal excerpts and the way you crafted it together. What a beautiful collage and something to really stop and think about. A very troubling statement about what we aren’t aware of.
