Sound Clip: The Ambient Wasp by Krispen Hartung

This wasp was captured in its nest before its dormant hive of winter. In a small ceramic jar covered with GLAD “Press and Seal,” I punctured holes in the Saran wrap to allow the wasp to breath. The interesting thing about my recording was that I captured many more complex sounds than just the irritated wasp. Percussive clicking textures from glass and Saran wrap added dimensions of audio beyond the insect’s own sonic protests. These recordings were processed through Reaktor and Max MSP with added layers of octaves, delay and pan.

Beautiful and very musical sounds! While I admire the quality and variety of the treatments, it would have been interesting to hear a snippet of the “raw” material.
