Sound Clip: The Golden Throng by Dolly Dolly
The sound of the bee is actually the result of it vibrating its flight muscles not the buzzing sound caused by the beating of their wings. This is achieved while the muscles are decoupled from the wings – a feature known in bees but not other insects. This recording was taken in late July at sunset as the bees returned to their hive for the evening.
