Sounds of Medicine

“Band 11: Sounds of the bowels, a normal hungry man smoking a cigarette before dinner.”

Totally fascinating and part of my record collection obsession from the Smithsonian Institute. Their archive of sound recordings is impressive, especially ones such as this from the 1950s. This particular record was easier to catch on Ebay than some of the others I hunt for.

  1. Ian Blake says:

There was a German brand of violin strings which, some years ago, included some info in English which referred to their ‘switness of tone recalling the bowel sounds of the past’.

Now, a ‘Darmsaite’ may well be a gut string, but I found this a robust and enjoyable translation.

Thanks for the blog, Margaret – which I heard about via the Sanlist – looking forward to more posts!
