Sound Clip: Solar Wind Sessions by David Fodel

The Solar Wind Harp is a software instrument that is “played” by the solar wind. The “strings” of the harp are digitally synthesized using physical modeling techniques, and the “wind” is real-time solar wind data streamed from the NASA ACE satellite. Science consultant for the project is Dr. George Millward of the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) / CU. Each track is composed of realtime unique performances of the streaming solar wind data at that time.

thanks for sharing this – a fascinating project. relaxing to listen to and changing fast enough to stay interesting. it’s also reassuring to hear that space music still sounds like space music when it really is from space … cheers, Andi

  2. Great work -not only a fine concept – but it sounds good too !
