Sound Clip: Saint Shë by Nadia Botello

Saint Shë is based on the idea of secrets, the act of keeping them, and the “telephone” or “whispering” game many played as a child. Saint Shë was produced, written, and recorded in collaboration with Mattias Olsson at Röth Handle studio in Stockholm, Sweden over the span of nine days. Saint Shë is essentially an improvisational composition of mostly single-takes, employing sonic themes ranging from mystery, love, and connection, to impulse, tension, and the natural evolution within; the listener is invited to join this course.

For the gear inclined: the album makes use of mellotrons, optigan, chamberlin, a collection of analog synthesizers including Benny Andersson’s Mini Moog and Yamaha GX-1, drum machines, stylophone, celeste, the soprano Anna Eklund-Tarantino, Ulf Åkerstedt and his contra bass trumpet, pump and pipe organs, open cables, children’s toys, tube radio frequencies, three samples that were gleaned off vinyl records for “vocal-speaking texture”, buried secrets, and many many more odds and ends.
