Sound Clip: Cicada Chorus by Jonathan O’Riordan

The cicada chorus signals the arrival of summer in New Zealand. For weeks I could not figure out what was making the sound that I now find so beautiful, the creature’s mating call. Since returning to Ireland, I have learned these insects are also found throughout America and Australia. This recording was made from my balcony and has ended up as the center piece of the final song on my last album.

This photograph was taken at the same time as this recording was made.
